On April 10th, 2025, a dedicated three-person team from WFR Wholesale Fire & Rescue Ltd. traveled to Banff, Alberta, to assist in setting up a critical wildfire protection system for Covenant Health’s Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. This proactive initiative was organized in collaboration with Mike Hoffman, Fire Safety Consultant for the Emergency Disaster Management Team with Covenant Health Services in Alberta.

Joining WFR on-site were representatives from the Banff Fire Department and the hospital’s maintenance staff—working together to establish a fire break solution designed to help protect the hospital in the event of a wildfire threat to the town of Banff.

The equipment supplied and deployed included:

  • Hydrant gate valves, spanners, and hydrant wrenches
  • 1,500 feet of 65mm fire hose
  • Gated wyes and 65mm water thieves
  • 15 Li’l Gun Quadpod Wildland Sprinklers (38mm / 1.5”)

These municipal/industrial-grade sprinklers—optimized for perimeter and roof protection—were each fitted with 10mm nozzles, delivering a consistent flow of approximately 40 GPM at 60 PSI. The on-site hydrant’s dual 65mm outlets provided the necessary water supply. By using high-volume 65mm hose runs paired with water thieves, we were able to efficiently tee off to 38mm wildland hose lines and position the sprinklers for optimal coverage.

Each unit provided approximately 150 feet of diameter protection, creating a substantial buffer zone around key structures on the hospital grounds.

Extensive layout testing and flow trials were carried out to determine the best equipment configurations and sprinkler placement for maximum effectiveness.

WFR is proud to support initiatives like this that help protect essential infrastructure and the communities they serve. Our hands-on involvement in emergency preparedness planning is part of our ongoing commitment to public safety and resilience across Alberta and beyond.
