Fire Suppression Bag (Base change bag)
Required Specifications
- It is sized to hold approximately 15 pounds of personal items, such as clothing, shaving
kits, personal care products to name a few
- The bag has a single compartment, cylindrical in shape
- It has formed handles made with 2-inch Nylon webbing. The webbing continues under
the bag to form a sling for added support
- There are two D-rings, one attached to the top of the bag at either end which can be
used for attaching a shoulder strap
- Adjustable shoulder strap with quick connect will be included inside bag
Material
- Fabric: 1000 denier Cordura, fabric shall be Red for sides, top, bottom and banner. Navy
blue Cordura both ends and for banner trim
- Zipper: #10 heavy duty self-repairing coil zipper (shall be black in color)
- Webbing for handles and sling wrap: 2 inch (5 cm) coarse weave, black only, webbing
to be one piece with the single join at the base of one handle where box stitch is
indicated. Seat belt webbing is not acceptable
- Webbing for D-rings: 1 inch, black only. 1.6 ¼ inch flexible rod, rope or tubing for handle
inserts (rubber, plastic or synthetic fiber)
Construction Specifications (Illustration A and B)
- Seams shall have 6-8 stitches per inch
- The two end seams and zipper seams shall be double stitched
- The finished dimensions shall be 22 inches long by 12 inches in diameter (55.9 cm X 30.5
cm)
- All seams will be sewn with heavy-duty thread, black only
- The cut ends of all webbing shall be fused
- There shall be no exposed edges of material on the outside of the bag
Zipper Opening
- The zipper shall be attached to the fabric before the banner is affixed
- The opening shall be located on the top portion and shall run the full length of the bag
down to the top of the banner on each end
D-Rings
- 1-1/4-inch D-rings, chrome plated
- There shall be two D-rings, one attached at either end of the top of the bag
- Each D-ring will sit on alternate sides of the zipper-see Illustration A
- D-rings will be attached on a short loop of 1 inch (2.4 cm) webbing, which is integrated
into the end wall seam
- The short loop shall be approximately 5/8 inches long
Handles
- The handles are an integral part of the sling wrap, which are formed with a single length
of 2-inch webbing
- Two parallel wraps of webbing shall be sewn around the bottom and sides of the bag to
form a sling. There shall be two loops left loose at the top of the bag, approximately 18
inches (45 cm) long creating two handles. The inside edge of each wrap of webbing shall
be 4 inches from the center of the bag (the two wraps shall be 8 inches apart)
- The handles shall be reinforced with a box and cross-stitch at the four points where the
handles attach to the bag. These points shall be approximately 3-1/4 inches (8.3 cm)
from the zipper
- The handles shall be formed by encasing a piece of ¼ inch flexible rod, tubing or rope
approximately 4-1/2 inches (11.4 cm) long into the webbing. The handles must be
properly centered
Banners and Screen Printing
- The banner shall be attached before the ends of the bag are sewn together and they
shall be sewn overtop of the webbing
- There shall be a banner sewn on all sides and end walls. Each banner shall be made of
an inner piece using red Cordura, edges trimmed with navy blue Cordura
- The inner portion of the banner shall be made of a single piece of red Cordura with the
edges folded under measuring 3-1/2 inches wide. Each trim piece is made using a single
piece of navy blue Cordura folded lengthwise. The trim shall be attached to the
underside of the centerpiece with a single row of topstitching ¼ inch from the edge
- The banner shall be attached to the bag, with a single row of topstitching around its
perimeter 5/16 inch from the edges. The top edge of the banner shall be approximately
5-1/2 inches from the zipper
- The banners shall have the letters BCWS silk screened in navy blue using 2-inch block
letters on each end piece-centered
