Liquid formulation is drawn from the container and forced at high pressure into the heat exchanger. In the heat exchanger the liquid is heated to a temperature that is higher than its boiling point at normal atmospheric pressure. The heated and pressurized liquid is then discharged through a small orifice into the atmosphere where it instantly vaporizes and then upon mixing with the cool air, condenses into billions of fine particles that are visible as fog.
