Specifications for WFR-5000
- Monitor stand shall be sized for a minimum flow rate 1200 USGPM.
- Pipe materials shall be of carbon steel construction conforming to
ASTM A53 Grade B or approved equal.
- Copper alloys of any type shall not be utilized in the construction of
the monitor and nozzles.
- Base of monitor shall terminate in a 150# flat faced flange
complying to ASTM A105 and ANSI B16.5. Flange shall be weld neck type of forged
construction.
- Locking type swivel joints shall provide 360º rotation about
a vertical axis and a minimum -45º down inclination and 100º up inclination
about a horizontal axis. Swivel joints shall provide a thread operated locking
device capable of fixing the monitor orientation in any operation position. Locking
device shall be capable to hold monitor orientation under full flow thrust
pressures in combination with maximum wind loading based on a 120 km/hr
gust loading.
- Locking device operation shall be able to be accomplished with gloved hands.
No tool or wrench device shall be required to accomplish lock operation. Serrated know
or wheel operation is preferred.
- Swivel joints shall be fitted with pressure nipple type fitting for lubrication.
Swivel joint shall be of double seal construction incorporating stainless steel ball
bearing joints of leak-proof construction. Swivel joints shall be of non-rusting
construction.
- Monitor shall be fitted with an operating bar complete with elastomeric
type grip. Operating bar shall provide a minimum 460mm projection as measured
perpendicular to axis of vertical and/or horizontal swivel joint whichever
provides the longest bar extension.
- Monitor discharge end shall terminate in a stainless steel type 304,
2½" Higbee cut type thread with 8 threads to the inch providing a
male O.D. of 3.000" and a male root of 2.825". Station monitor shall be epoxy
finish inside and out for corrosion protection. Colour shall be red.
Paint Specifications:
- Preparation--All component parts are sandblasted inside and out to remove weld
scale and protective coatings. All surface areas are thoroughly cleaned to a textured
metal surface. All parts are inspected after sandblast to ensure a 100% clean
surface area. After sandblast, the discharge thread and interior swivel areas are
taped off to eliminate over spray on these surfaces.
- Painting takes place within 8 hours of sandblast to ensure no
surface area oxidation or contamination occurs. A red polyester powder is
applied with a "powder" gun and modified "flex" attachments to ensure a thorough
coating, both inside and out. The component parts are hanging by wire on racks
that are then pushed into a 12x24' oven. The metal wheels are guided to metal
tracks to ensure a consistent electrical charge. The electrical charge is applied
over a 20 minute period ( two times the minimum time for curing the paint). The oven
is preheated and set at 400º Fahrenheit. The powder paint particles are melted
by the heat and "fused" to the raw metal surface by the electrical charge. This
process yields a superior corrosion resistant finish that will not chip or peel
as the particles have been fused together. The surface thickness is .003-.004.
Heavier and/or thicker items require additional cure times and are baked accordingly.
After parts are allowed to cool a 100% inspection is made on all component parts.
- WFR uses a fuller O'Brien powder #PFR-400-59 "Red Baron" which
complies with NFPA paint finish specifications. This is a red polyester/polyurethane
finish for outside usage in potentially corrosive environments. Some additional
features include a surface hardness that is weather temperature range compatible
with chemical and solvent resistant characteristics.
