Fire-dex Honor Fire Fighter Glove
 
Pre-Use Information: Firefighting is an extremely dangerous activity involving unlimited hazards that may cause burns, injuries, infections or death. Firefighters must follow the instructions in this guide before using their Fire-Dex gloves. Even when correctly used and maintained, Fire-Dex gloves will not eliminate the dangers and risks of firefighting. Your Fire-Dex gloves must fit properly and interface with your turnout so that no gaps in coverage occur during all ranges of movement. Do not use your Fire-Dex gloves if they do not fit or interface properly with your other protective equipment. These gloves are designed for structural firefighting only and meet the requirements of NFPA 1971,current edition. Your Fire-Dex glove may be marked using permanent, non-toxic ink on the outer shell and/or on the label inside the glove. You must clean, maintain and store your Fire-Dex gloves properly. Failure to do so will increase your risk of injury or death. Do not alter your gloves in any way as it may increase your risk of injury or death. Your fire department must independently evaluate the suitability of Fire-Dex gloves on a regular basis to determine when gloves must be removed from service. Do not continue to use gloves that are damaged, contaminated or otherwise do not pass inspection. Even when properly used and maintained, protective qualities of Fire-Dex gloves will diminish in time and need to be replaced for your safety. Most performance properties of the glove an not be tested by the end user in the field; however, it is the responsibility to inspect the gloves regularly. It is also the responsibility of the end user to become familiar with the applicable NFPA and OSHA standards. Fire-Dex, warrants its structural fire gloves to be free from defects in workmanship for the serviceable life of the product when used by appropriately trained personnel following proper firefighting procedures and when the product's warning use and care instructions are followed.

Preparation for use: A Gloves should be cleaned and dried thoroughly and stored in a cool, dry place. Keep gloves away from sharp objects that could cut or tear the gloves. Keep gloves out of direct sunlight or fluorescent light as that could weaken or damage the gloves.

Inspection: For best results clean the gloves before inspection. Inspection shall be on a regular basis, at least once a month, or after evidence of damage or contamination. Inspect the shell, liner and wristlet or gauntlet for cuts, tears, worn areas, loose or open seams, pieces of foreign materials imbedded in the glove, discoloration or charring. If damage has occurred, the gloves should be taken out of service for repair, cleaning or disposal.

Don/Doff: Pull on your Fire-Dex gloves after putting on your other protective equipment. Check to be sure that no gaps appear between your turnout coat and glove and that there is a proper fit. Be sure to choose a comfortable size that allows the best grip and dexterity in order to reduce premature hand fatigue. To remove your gloves, grasp and pull your gloves at the fingertips. If your globes have become contaminated during use, exercise extreme caution in glove removal and avoid contact of the glove with your bare hand. Contaminated gloves should be bagged and disposed of in accordance with local, state and federal standards.

Use: Gloves are to be used consistently with NFPA 1500, Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program and 29 CFR 1910.132, General Requirements of Subpart I, Personal Protective Equipment.

Maintenance and Cleaning: Do not use gloves that have not been thoroughly cleaned and dried. Doing so could jeopardize your safety. Gloves may be hand or machine washed. Heavily soiled gloves should be pre-treated with a pre-cleaner or spot cleaner before washing.

Hand washing:

  1. Fill basin with warm water and add a mild detergent. Do not use chlorine bleach as it will diminish the protective qualities of the gloves.
  2. Add gloves and soak until thoroughly wet.
  3. Using medium bristle brush, scrub gloves.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  5. Hang dry in a cool, dry shaded location. Do not wring gloves, squeeze gloves to remove excess water.
  6. Dispose of all waste water according to local, state and federal standards.

Machine washing:

  1. Fill basin with warm water and add a mild detergent. Do not use chlorine bleach as it will diminish the protective qualities of the gloves.
  2. Add gloves (up to 20 pair per standard washer size).
  3. Wash using normal wash cycle, double rinse.
  4. Remove gloves from washer and hang dry in a cool, dry shaded location. Do not force dry the gloves, as it will cause the leather to stiffen.
  5. Dispose of all waste water according to local, state and federal standards.

Inspect gloves before use. If gloves are still contaminated or do not pass inspection, do not use them. Turn in the gloves to your department and order a replacement pair.

Retirement and disposal of gloves: Dispose of gloves that have been exposed to extreme heat, hazardous materials or that fail to pass inspection procedures defined by your fire department. If gloves have been contaminated with hazardous materials, blood, body fluids or other chemicals isolate and bag the gloves avoiding contact with the contaminated gloves. Continued water resistance of gloves does not indicated continued viral or chemical resistance. Dispose of gloves according to local, state and federal standards.
