| The Hot Shield (model HS-2) Firefighter Face Mask is a multiple layer, patented face protector mask designed by firefighters for use in all wildland firefighting operations. The HS-2 offers unequaled, extreme protection against burns to the face/neck with the added benefit of blocking & reducing the inhalation of smoke & ash particulate. Multiple layers of CarbonX® help maintain the crucial airspace in front of the mouth and nose. The soft comfortable inside liners (also CarbonX®) absorb perspiration, adding to user comfort. Highly breathable mesh CarbonX® covers the center ventilation orifice allowing easy air exchange and helps prevent buildup of CO2. The patented, user-friendly design allows the firefighter to insert an activated carbon, low cost disposable particle filter with exhalation valve. CarbonX® is the only inherently non-flammable revolutionary fiber in the world that will not burn, ignite, char, shrink or decompose at temperatures exceeding 2600°F. even for extended periods of time. | |
The HS-2 weighs 4.0 oz./112 grams, incorporates Scotchlite®
Reflective trim for nighttime visibility, is sewn with Nomex® thread and is classified as an interface
component of Wildland PPE. Its performance under fire & smoke has led to
acceptance in industries other than wildland firefighting where these hazards
are common to the workplace.
Part #563540105 Less carbon filter ACCESSORIES Advantage: The Web Case accommodates both your mask AND goggles, keeping both clean & ready for immediate use (in the same manner as your Breathing Apparatus face piece pouch that you may have sewn into your structure turnout/bunker coat at chest level). Size: 8 ˝ “ wide x 10 ˝” long oval shaped, slightly narrower at the top (6 ˝”) Flat: ˝” thick and expands to over 5” Materials: 600 denier Nylon Cordura with 2 way pull YKK Zippers Part #563540140 THE DPM REPLACEMENT FILTERS Advantage: Activated carbon and inexpensive. In a pinch, you can install just about any brand of disposable filter with an exhalation valve. Nearly all filters are manufactured in the same shape. Just check the location of the valve. In this way, you are not committed to buying an expensive filter for the life of the mask (maintenance costs) Materials: Activated Carbon sandwiched by cotton media, with rubber straps and exhalation valve. Size: Standard disposable filter shape Use: Gives some structure to the Hot Shield as well as providing an extra measure of respiratory comfort, by physically blocking some of the airborne particulate common to all wildfires. Limitations: When filter becomes difficult to breathe through or filter becomes damaged, simply throw away and replace with new filter. This filter doesn't block fire gases, including carbon monoxide, so don’t think you can advance into the fire further. Use your head, common sense and training.
